taintmonger @ 4:28pm: Here are some things I want to talk about
My computer is still broke, so it’s very luxurious to be at a keyboard. Thomas could not salvage my hard drive despite his best efforts, so I’m only going to retain what is on the Norton 360 backup – which I won’t see the contents of until I do the actual restore. I’ve resigned myself to losing all that data, though I did have a few days of sad-face because of it.

Not sure how I’ll approach what to re-download, rip, upload, whatever. I plan to use my desktop a lot more this year and I just bought a 1TB external hard drive for my own backing up, but the prospect of hours of CD rips and Steam downloads is far from appealing. Perhaps I’ll be a bit pickier, despite the big space to fill.

I couldn’t have been less enthused for Christmas this year, but it ended up pretty fun. I am a broken record for Kentucky trips, but there’s nothing wrong with that:
Uncle time to the extreme
Kate’s (and by marriage my) close family rocks
I am again spoiled by presents
Did some after-Christmas shopping to reward myself for buying good stuff for others

Also had most fun with plastic instruments since Rock Band 2 – thanks to us getting Kate’s folks Beatles Rock Band and GH: World Tour (for instruments). It’s tough to shred on guitar while youngsters are spanking your ass, but I welcome the challenge. I also really enjoyed playing (fake) drums; I’ll have to do more of that.

Came home and almost immediately started hacking up dark green phlegm balls. Was it the trip back or the coughing munchkins? Either way, I didn’t really do much the last week because of it. No NYE karaoke for us! We did see Avatar in 3D – which was as awesome as many said it would be. I’m glad I can drop my attitude and let myself enjoy something I was originally skeptical of.

Also saw Sherlock Holmes, which kind of pales in comparison but was still quite good (and I have connections to those who did the fights). I really liked how it tied things together in a logical way. I’m finding that the smartest people don’t talk above the general populace, but mold things in a way that the majority can understand.

I’m really excited about 2010, and I’m not just saying that. I won’t delve into much right here – perhaps in a friend-locked post soon – but it’s going to be my year. I’m quite literally giddy about it. Those who know me know that I don’t get giddy very often.

Another Japan trip is coming soon. They’ve been too few and far between as of late – to the point where I will no longer be Platinum status on American after this month. I will miss it. But at least I got a parting gift of first-class upgrading for me and Kate on one leg of our Christmas trip.

Games I’m playing:
This may not make sense, but I felt too sick last week to play any big releases, instead going for downloady, portable fare. I did get 200.6% map coverage on the Xbox 360 version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (#4 on my all-time list). The last 2 "rooms" were so random – requiring going through a tunnel in wolf form, then reversing as a bat. Who would stumble upon that themselves?!
Played lots of iPhone on my trip. I beat Mystery Mania and Angry Birds – which are both quality. Didn’t get into N.O.V.A., the Halo derivative.
Brought my DS and PSP, too. Played more Chrono Trigger DS, and started up Half-Minute Hero. HMH is so unique and original, and of course Chrono is classic.
I just got an email that Bayonetta shipped. Also plan to pick up Darksiders this week in the one hour the company store is open.

Things I’m looking at:
Finished season 1 of Flight of the Concords, and about 1/3 through the second season. Kate surprised me with their first album (bought the second along with the 2 seasons on DVD).
We saw The Hangover, which I got on Blu-ray for Christmas. Hilarious as advertised.
I’m reading Selby Jr.’s The Room, which Rollins recommended. It’s pretty disturbed. I was getting into it, but a scene about treating cops like dogs kind of put me off of it.
I’m also reading Sheik Adnan Alkassey’s autobiography. He’s a pro wrestler who grew up in Iraq as a friend of Saddam’s, then became a national hero in days when nobody knew wrestling was fake. Then about 30 years later, he hit me in the head with the scabbard of his sword and yelled at me to "Sell! Sell! Sell!"

  • 18:33 On my way to a wedding. Why the fuck they couldn't do this closer to civilization I don't know. Google "mount forest Ontario" and you'll see #
  • 18:35 Dark two lane highway with blowing snow. Why not Toronto or Guelph or niagara falls or Hamilton or anywhere closer and safer to get to? #
  • 18:36 Yes... I will be tweeting a new years wedding for wceryone #
  • 19:29 With one wrong turn I got here with 10 mins to spare. Ceremony was short and sweet. They included the kids in the "I do's" which was sweet. #
  • 19:33 Favorite guest so far: giant fat white guy wearing powder blue sweatshirt and matching Kangol hat. Dude, splurge and get a suit tailored!!! #
  • 19:37 Seriously it's all white guys up in this piece. Looks like I'm at a tier 2 hockey team's fundraiser banquet. #
  • 19:38 Bride's older sister just introduced herself to me. No punchline. Just mentioning it. #
  • 19:41 Sis is taking individual pics of each guest. Resisted the urge to go all Scissor Gang Mafia or Metal Fingers or Vulkan. Smile, wave, done. #
  • 19:44 I legit know maybe 7 people here. Anyone have any good pick up lines I can use on the chix? Remember I said GOOD! @LuchaDoll and @RonnieWK? #
  • 19:55 Now in backseat of truck headed to help push two girls out of ditch at hotel. So they're late for wedding and now I have to help them... #

  • 20:49 Bride and groom just had first dance. Very sweet. But Why does the DJ have FIVE laptops running? #
  • 20:54 This is really a very nicely staged wedding. It reminds me a lot of SJK's do in Pittsburgh last year. #
  • 20:57 Depending on the menu, I may have already eaten my last meal of red meat for the next year. #
  • 20:58 Val, you can't stop my Twitter. My twitter is strong. LOL. #
  • 21:43 The meal sevice is ending and the girls we went to help earlier JUST arrived. Like I always say, you can't teach strippers how to tell time. #
  • 21:44 @UltraBlueDragon - not sure I'll have the answer to that question until April #
