taintmonger @ : Here are some things I want to talk about
Not sure how I’ll approach what to re-download, rip, upload, whatever. I plan to use my desktop a lot more this year and I just bought a 1TB external hard drive for my own backing up, but the prospect of hours of CD rips and Steam downloads is far from appealing. Perhaps I’ll be a bit pickier, despite the big space to fill. I couldn’t have been less enthused for Christmas this year, but it ended up pretty fun. I am a broken record for Kentucky trips, but there’s nothing wrong with that: Uncle time to the extreme Kate’s (and by marriage my) close family rocks I am again spoiled by presents Did some after-Christmas shopping to reward myself for buying good stuff for others Also had most fun with plastic instruments since Rock Band 2 – thanks to us getting Kate’s folks Beatles Rock Band and GH: World Tour (for instruments). It’s tough to shred on guitar while youngsters are spanking your ass, but I welcome the challenge. I also really enjoyed playing (fake) drums; I’ll have to do more of that. Came home and almost immediately started hacking up dark green phlegm balls. Was it the trip back or the coughing munchkins? Either way, I didn’t really do much the last week because of it. No NYE karaoke for us! We did see Avatar in 3D – which was as awesome as many said it would be. I’m glad I can drop my attitude and let myself enjoy something I was originally skeptical of. Also saw Sherlock Holmes, which kind of pales in comparison but was still quite good (and I have connections to those who did the fights). I really liked how it tied things together in a logical way. I’m finding that the smartest people don’t talk above the general populace, but mold things in a way that the majority can understand. I’m really excited about 2010, and I’m not just saying that. I won’t delve into much right here – perhaps in a friend-locked post soon – but it’s going to be my year. I’m quite literally giddy about it. Those who know me know that I don’t get giddy very often. Another Japan trip is coming soon. They’ve been too few and far between as of late – to the point where I will no longer be Platinum status on American after this month. I will miss it. But at least I got a parting gift of first-class upgrading for me and Kate on one leg of our Christmas trip. Games I’m playing: This may not make sense, but I felt too sick last week to play any big releases, instead going for downloady, portable fare. I did get 200.6% map coverage on the Xbox 360 version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (#4 on my all-time list). The last 2 "rooms" were so random – requiring going through a tunnel in wolf form, then reversing as a bat. Who would stumble upon that themselves?! Played lots of iPhone on my trip. I beat Mystery Mania and Angry Birds – which are both quality. Didn’t get into N.O.V.A., the Halo derivative. Brought my DS and PSP, too. Played more Chrono Trigger DS, and started up Half-Minute Hero. HMH is so unique and original, and of course Chrono is classic. I just got an email that Bayonetta shipped. Also plan to pick up Darksiders this week in the one hour the company store is open. Things I’m looking at: Finished season 1 of Flight of the Concords, and about 1/3 through the second season. Kate surprised me with their first album (bought the second along with the 2 seasons on DVD). We saw The Hangover, which I got on Blu-ray for Christmas. Hilarious as advertised. I’m reading Selby Jr.’s The Room, which Rollins recommended. It’s pretty disturbed. I was getting into it, but a scene about treating cops like dogs kind of put me off of it. I’m also reading Sheik Adnan Alkassey’s autobiography. He’s a pro wrestler who grew up in Iraq as a friend of Saddam’s, then became a national hero in days when nobody knew wrestling was fake. Then about 30 years later, he hit me in the head with the scabbard of his sword and yelled at me to "Sell! Sell! Sell!"
